Most of my paintings contain a teepee in them.  The reason for this is that the teepee serves a much deeper purpose to my people than just practical means.   "Each element of the teepee symbolizes a moral principle of Indian society.   They must be respected and followed if the family and ultimately society, are to hold together and function in harmony" (Royal Saskatchewan Museum).  There are 13 poles in a teepee and each possess their own virtue.

The White.jpg (550890 bytes)

"The White"

8" x 10"

Limited Edition Prints:  $30.00 each (CDN);   $20.00 each (US)

Artist Proof A/P:          $50.00 each (CDN);  $35.00 each (US)

About the Painting:  I think that many people harbor a certain fascination with wolves.  I, of course, am one of them.  Having been brought up in the country and experiencing and enjoying all the benefits of living first hand with nature.  I used to go hunting with my dad and he would tell me little things about the various animals and birds that we would encounter.   The shrill howl of a wolf in the wild conjures up varied images.  For some though, particularly some farmers and ranchers, the wolf is despised because of it's penchant for domestic animals.

In this painting, I chose to do wolves against an abstract background to challenge the viewer.  I enjoy hearing people volunteering their interpretations.

Legends.jpg (162985 bytes)

"Legends"

14 3/8" x 18"

Limited Edition Prints:  $125.00 each (CDN); $85.00 each (US)

Artist Proof A/P:          $150.00 each (CDN); $100.00 each (US)

About the Painting:  When I was growing up on the reserve we were told many stories about Northern Lights and because of it we grew up in awe of the lights.  We understood that they were the spirits of our ancestors dancing in the night.  In this scene the wolf is also represented as he was often used in the naming of the most courageous of warriors.  For a while it seemed that these legends would be lost but thanks to the determination of our people, it appears these legends will live on.......forever.

Naming of a Warrior.jpg (185968 bytes)

"Naming of a Warrior"

14 3/8" x 18"

Limited Edition Prints:  $125.00 each (CDN); $85.00 each (US)

Artist Proof A/P:          $150.00 each (CDN); $100.00 each (US)

About the Painting:  When Europeans and Indians first came into contact, stories were exchanged between the two groups.  It seems that the most courageous warriors were named after wolves.  I chose to do this painting to capture that time and to pay tribute to that powerful spirit that, to this day, is highly regarded.

The Drummer.jpg (30658 bytes) "The Drummer"

22 1/2" x 18"

Limited Edition Prints:  $125.00 each (CDN); $85.00 each (US)

About the Painting:   As a youngster my family would travel to many of the various pow-wows. One of the unique things that occurs, after listening to days of pow-wow, is that hours after leaving the big top one can still hear the rythmic beat of the drum and the bells of the dancers. Those sounds have remained within my my soul and mind all these years later.    Even though I don't make attendances at pow-wows as often as I'd like, I find those influences making their presence felt in my paintings as they have in "The Drummer".

A Way001.jpg (249228 bytes)

"A Way of Life"

14 3/8" x 18"

Limited Edition Prints:  $125.00 each (CDN); $85.00 each (US)

Artist Proofs A/P:         $150.00 each (CDN); $100.00 each (US)

About the Painting:  A way of life is a conglomeration of images from our lives and the lives of those who blazed a trail for us.  The teepee and all the symbolism and virtues that are represented within its structure and poles, speak volumes.  The eagle, who flies the highest and comes closest to the Great Spirit delivers the prayers.  Finally, the buffalo which for centuries gave sustenance to my people will forever be associated with the plains tribes.  Even though the buffalo's numbers have declined, their significance will never diminish.
